• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Anyone know offhand a source for operating/user manuals for the EFJohnson (Kenwood) Viking series radios? Specifically the VP & VM 6000's (Specifically the VP6430 and VM6930 if that matters). I found some old user manuals for the VP400's and VP600's but nothing for the newer 6000's.

EFJohnson isn't the most responsive company unfortunately (been trying to get officially certified for ages and they never have anything posted on the site or respond to inquiries about it, and I'm pretty rural so nothing even remotely local), and I'm trying to put together a little crash course training presentation as our county is going into a functionally forced radio upgrade into 800MHz P25 but the county for the most part only supports Motorola's (long dramatic and corruption-likely story to this one lol) as far as training goes, despite the fact a significant portion of the county mixed in some Vikings with the Motorola's.

I'm familiar enough with the Vikings that I can put something together myself but I'd love to be able to save a little time by referencing user manual things for the more fine-use things in the screen menus. But damned be if they don't make a digital/PDF copy of the operating manuals an absolute pain in the ass to obtain lol.

Out of town, email me evans@rrt2way.com
I will see what I have for vp6000.

Will do here shortly, thanks. Like I have just about every spec, data and info sheet you can possibly find for them, just not an actual full operating manual (which is funny because every sheet references the operating manual but doesn't give any URL to it lol).

All of the Viking radios come with a card in the box with a QR code to download a Quick Reference Guide. Also your dealer should have access to the Quick Reference Guides and the full Operator Manuals too.

Ah wish I saw that message before I just went up to the station, I could have grabbed one while I was there lol.

Yeah I talked to our main dealer, she talked to I guess their main intermediary and all they gave her was some subscriber overview PDFs lol, which is why I was like screw it I'll just make something myself at this point.

Our network is supposed to start launching next week and I'm set to do a class for the motorola's on Sunday, I just wanted to cover the Viking's as well since so many of us in the county opted to get them as well.

EFJ Does have one on the myefj site. It won't attach due to the file size. Here is a link.

Yeah I've been waiting ages for an 'account approval/review' for there. I just managed to finally catch someone by phone at EFJohnson, at least I'm not crazy and my memory of there being like a whole training portal was accurate, he said though they recently took it down while they work on a paid annual-subscription training portal :/

But he's gonna send me all the old training resources he still has available so I'll see what all they toss me (he said it should include the operating manuals as well).
