The Philco 38-10 is an "All American 5" rube radio which covers the AM broadcast band (and old low police band) 540 KC to 1720 KC and shortwave 5.7 MC to 18 MC which covers the most used international broadcast bands. It's circuitry and performance are very similar to the 37-61 which came out the year before. It came in two styles, a tabletop, 38-10T and a console, 38-10F. When attached to a good antenna and ground it is a decent performer, right up there with any of the "All American 5" radios touted as "communications receivers." Although it lacks an electronic bandspread, the tuning is done with two stage mechanical tuning, the outer ring providing fast tuning across the dial, and the smaller inner knob providing precise tuning once you are in the right area. The 8 inch electrodynamic speaker gives excellent, mellow sound, good for both voice or music, which is tunable with a 3 step tone control. This is another radio I have had the pleasure to restore, and which is in my collection. The schematic for it can be found here: Philco 38-10 schematic . My video demonstrating this radio can be found here: Demonstration of my Philco 38-10T
