"The road grader is powered by a deer"
"The park ranger ate the buffalo"
"The big dog is heavy unless it's wet and muddy"

Interesting... I didn't look at my recording thoroughly earlier. The morning transmissions are nice and clear. Around 1:20pm, the transmissions are showing up as TDMA and are a bit garbled.

Sounds like they are testing from ALL sorts of locations around the county.
I'll have to take a look at that because it got clear for me in the afternoon and the morning was garbled.

I know we're still a ways from going live officially, but I thought I'd throw up a SARA-Benton feed on Broadcastify in case anyone is interested in listening.

I will say that so far it is mostly patching 06 VHF-Fire+ and is a bit garbled. Just thought others may be interested in some of the testing going on....

Thank you very much. Yes that's about all I've heard is radio tests and some ISICS Benton Patches which is Atkins Fire Ops

They are all garbled and every once in awhile I'll get a clear signal. I don't have an SDS though and I'm not too far from the broadcast point just north of Shellsburg

Thanks for the info. I'm on the far WSW side of CR near Fairfax. I assume i'm hitting the Norway tower. Pretty decent signal. As good if not better than my Linn/Johnson feed!

All I've had tonight is a 2 second garbled transmission on 10697 from frequency 772.2312.

I forgot I had an attenuator turned on to test if I could hear the simulcast better since I'm so close to a tower. They must have been testing the south tower near you since I only had the one broadcast that I picked up today.

Interesting…. I’ve been logging and listening carefully to the new talk groups I’ve been picking up for Benton to try to figure out who they belong to.

Tonight I check out RRDB and see there are a few already submitted! I wonder where they get this info????

There is no secret. Just listen and document.

Yes, that's what I've been doing. Just surprised to see that someone has beat me to it. My RR feed has not been up that long, and with the ongoing testing, there hasn't been much activity (Although it is picking up lately).

Just wondering if the admins have some other source for the info instead of getting it from grunts like me...

Ever since they started brodcasting below are the only talk groups I have recorded and I'm only a couple miles from on of the antennas. Very hard to make out what they are though since I don't have an SDS yet.

Probably already aware, but, have noticed the general pattern for people recently/currently onboarding to SARA has been basically been this, AXY12, a "type" (A), then the county number (XY), and then just (sequential?) sequencing (12). Earlier adopters don't have the same pattern

Story County's "types" generally shuffle out to 1 being interop, patches, etc. 2 is law enforcement, 3 I haven't pegged down, but the university has a bunch of maintenance and residency channels, fire talk channels, and a couple non-university security that I haven't figured out who it is. 4 is fire, 5 is public works.

18502 - VLaw31 patch
28501 - Story County law enforcement
38535 - ISU something
48505 - County Fire Tac
58501 - story county roads

With every rule there is an exception......

Let the fun begin. I just ordered my SDS200 so I can help decipher these new Benton County Talk Groups once they come on board. Thank you very much @timsheff and @timkilbride for filling in the blanks.
Hey, no problem! Kinda fun trying to figure out what's what.

I'm not sure what the SDS200 has over what you have now as far as figuring this stuff out. The bulk of my SDS200 scanning is on the Linn Co feed. I am feeding RR Benton Co feed using Trunk-Recorder running on Pi4. I primarily look at the uploaded feeds on RR to listen/decipher what has been uploaded.

I have everything SARA related shut off except for the frequencies from the new Benton sites since they are building the system. Just to get what the Talk Group IDs are. I was trying to justify if I really wanted to get an SDS200 or not but I just got a gift card from working at my job forever so what the heck, why not. Look forward to scanning the SARA system now.
