Although licensed to the Vinton County EMA, I’ve heard very sporadic law enforcement type traffic on this frequency for the past 6+ months. The comms are simplex with no PL tone. Earlier today I heard a unit call “SO” and the location he gave was in Vinton County. I did not catch a unit number, unfortunately.

Any ideas on what this is?

Vinton County EMA is basically a one person (FTE) operation. I believe 453.7125 was secured several years ago (along with 155.805 and 453/458.1875) for countywide use when money was available for radio equipment. I've heard the same radio traffic as the original poster. I know the Vinton County Sheriff's Office and McArthur PD maintain UHF radios in their vehicles to monitor fire and EMS communications. Every public safety agency has full access to all the UHF channels in the county. I've heard law enforcement calling in on one of the UHF repeaters (usually 462.975 MHz) when they're in a dead spot for the MARCS system. I'm guessing .7125 is designated as a simplex car-to-car channel. That's how I've heard it used.

453.7125 MHz is used by the Vinton County Sheriffs for mobile repeaters in their cars

453.1875 MHz is used by Vinton County EMS for mobile repeaters in their ambulances.

Both freqencies are analog, and I believe they have no tone assigned to them (CSQ).
