Vinton has some VHF channels for PD and Fire-Rescue. One of the Fire-Rescue channels is patched to the 800 digital system so the volunteers can hear what is being said on their PRIMARY radio system which is the 800 digital system. They use VHF because it is a lot cheaper than getting every volunteer a digital 800 radio. The other VHF channels for PD and Fire-Rescue are used as local talk channels for the Vinton agencies but again their PRIMARY communication for both PD and Fire-EMS is on the 800 system. That is where their dispatchs occur since that is what the dispatch center uses and everyone else around them. If you want to know what they are being dispatched and responding to then listen to their talkgroups on 800. If you want to hear their chat conversations then listen to the VHF channels.
