• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

    If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

    To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello, I'm looking for assistance with relay configuration to enable Horn & Lights off a UHF Range 2 XTL5000.
So far, I have not been able to trigger the relay from a QC II alert to enable the horn & lights. I have been using a standard bosch type relay.
I have tried one relay for both functions and I have tried one relay for each function.

When I activate the QCII tones from another test radio, the XTL5000 receives the tones and displays "page received" however no trigger of the relay.

I now have a tone that emits from the radio as well as the red TX light stays solid on the 05 control head.
My code plug configuration is as follows.

Radio wide/Alarm

Check= Horn & Lights

Check=Permanent Horn & Lights
Duration= 3 sec for both

Check= Two Alarm Option

I have enabled the H/L menu item.

This appeared to be a simple process, but it is really frustrating. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

This would be a fire station alerting question. If anyone has assistance with using an XTL 5000 for fire station alerting, I'd appreciate any assistance.

You're probably aware that you actually have to operate the H/L to enable and select either horn, light, or both?
It's also important to know if this is a dash mount, or a remote mount radio, and what control head is in use?
How are/is the relay(s) wired? What connector and pins are they attached to?

I've done it on CDM-1250's, not on XTL's.
But, did you assign a pin on the accessory connector for that function?
Do XTLs give you the option of Active Hi vs Active Lo like the Pro Series did? Might be working but inverting your expected output?

Your VIP outputs should be tied to one side of the relay coils and the other side tied to +12. Put a diode across the coil to prevent back EMF from falsing the relay. When the radio decodes, the VIP lines go low, activating the relays.
