Just as a reminder to all North Carolina residents, the annual VIPER Christmas Eve broadcast is coming up in a few days. It takes place on the Statewide Calling channel (TG 52255) at 8 PM on 12/24. The event typically begins with units reporting Santa sightings and concludes with public servants (and sometimes their children) from across the state wishing each other a merry Christmas. It is very cool to hear and is a wonderful Christmas tradition!

Here is the post from Charlotte Fire Communication's Facebook:
**FIRE ALARM ANNOUNCEMENT**
We plan to continue our time-honored tradition of the Christmas Eve Santa sighting broadcast via our Main Alarm dispatch channel. In speaking with the experts at NORAD, we estimate the broadcast and sighting to begin around 8pm on Christmas Eve.
We welcome ALL to participate, especially those on duty here in Charlotte Mecklenburg! Off duty members, with radio access, can also chime in and participate along with your family.
As has been tradition as of late, we will ensure that this broadcast is heard throughout NC, ‘from the Mountains to Manteo’ (via the NCVIPER Statewide-Call channel; by use of a tactical patch). After all, our FieldComm motto IS “Heard From Anywhere!”
For the greater Charlotte area, Charlotte Fire Main Alarm is the local channel (CFD ALARM on the radios)…for those outside the area; but in NC, it’s the NC VIPER Statewide-Calling channel (SW-CALL on the radios).
If you don’t have access to a radio…consider using an open-source scanner application such as the following to listen in:

Start of patch was delayed in Charlotte, but I still love all the greetings and seeing RIDs we usually don't get to see.

Merry Christmas to all that read this

I also missed the first few minutes since whoever was affiliated with my local tower disaffiliated. It took me a minute to realize and find another active site. The Christmas greetings continued for over 30 minutes before Charlotte had to cut it short due to high call volume there. Very cool to hear! Merry Christmas to all.
