Indeed. I am sure it will be a great asset If/when it comes online at some point.
As always we appreciate those of you in unique locations that have access to some of these sites...without y'all the database would not be anywhere as accurate as it is.

Marshall, this is great news! Every time I go to Burnsville I sweep the band to see if I can hit any new control channels.

I'll be looking forward to them putting the new tower up in Burnsville, just as much as the people that will be using it.

The VHF radio system they have now on Phillips Knob is built on an array of light poles. Despite I can pick Phillips Knob up great here where I live. I can't pick up Locust Knob VHF at all even though I can get 800 off Locust Knob. Mitchell has their VHF fire repeaters in simulcast with a voter. And they also have it patched into VIPER fire talkgroup. Which is how I monitor fire. Yancey has 3 law repeaters, 5 fire repeaters. None of them are tied together with simulcast. Just different PL tones. You can imagine how aggravating it is when they have to dispatch county-wide announcements or page multi agencies for an emergency.

I'm hearing the State Events being used for the first time. BRAVO1. Off Woodys Knob. Sounds like SBI is in the air with ground units on Hunters Ridge Rd. in Canton.

It sounds much, much better than the old analog Event channels, especially when someone is talking from a helicopter. Now you can hardly even hear the helicopter engine when the helicopter unit speaks.

And no more analog static. Right on!

Possibly. I know SBI gets assistance from sheriffs department in the county they are working. The reason for using the Events channel is so the SBI and the agents from different department we can use their own radios to talk to one another instead of SBI having to distribute radios to the ground units, then having to go collect radios.

But that is the intended purpose of VIPER, interoperability between different agencies.

Can anyone confirm that Macon County has Talkgroup block 29000-?. Yesterday, I heard a very brief radio conversation on TG 29004 and from the adjoining talkgroup assigments previously posted on here point to Macon County.

I'm hearing some traffic on 60614 the past hour or so, sounds like surveillance, watching traffic going in and out of a place in hudson vicinity (i'm not saying exactly where so to not jeopardize an investigation). i couldn't find the 60*** block anywhere in the DB. anyone have an idea who this is?

Metrofire please take a look at the TG's listed on the VIPER P25 page and compare the talkgroups listed from Bladen to Yancey to my list. You will find that the counties with talkgroups listed do, indeed, fall within the ranges on my list. I took an alphabetical list of all the counties and filled in the verified counties and counted 500 up for each county missing on the page to the next verified county. And new counties being verified after I made my list are falling within the ranges I predicted.

The only ranges I have not verified are for Alamance to Bertie. They seem to have 100 talkgroup range instead of 500. But if you start at 1000 for Alamance and count 500 for each county to Bladen, you'll see that would make more sense. But we won't know for sure which is right until someone else can verify the correct talkgroup ranges for those specific counties.

It sure does sound like DEA traffic. they apparently know who they're watching and getting info on everyone going in and out. talking about getting a "bird" in the air when the primary leaves.

Thanks, Robkermit. I'll continue to monitor and hopefully figure out how all the talkgroup block is assigned.

Let's not get too specific....leave places/locations/landmarks out of this discussion.

You are not too far off from reality. Some counties get 500, some only get 100....just depends on the individual county/area.
And before anyone asks: No I will not give specific ranges. That would ruin the fun.
One suggestion would be for one of you organized folks to draft up an article for the Wiki so that future folks can use the info that is accurate.
Happy Monitoring!

I could be wrong, but it is looking like the 60000 range is federal.

Maybe someone can explain this to me: I'm hearing a control channel of 856.5125 and the site shows up as the Welcome site which I've heard for the past 3 days. Is this another alternate control channel or was the wrong control channels submitted to the DB?

I know a lot of people have kicked around the idea that it's federal but I'm thinking that it's a state agency. I'm thinking that it could be ALE just based on the transmissions that I am hearing but it easily could be someone else as well.

*** Scratch all of the above, I'm starting to agree it's federal. Color me confused :)

I know some people enjoy monitoring this way and trying to track down TGIDs, but I don't. I like to know what I am listening to. I may take a break from monitoring until more things are IDed.
