Hi, are there any talkgroups assigned to Wayne County? I see there are sites listed within the county in the database however I didn't see anything assigned for Wayne County. Thanks!

Wayne County has been assigned 49000-49499.

If they are using VIPER and there are no talkgroups in the database, you should load 49000-49010 in your scanner (call 49000 Channel 1, 49001 Channel 2, etc.). Also run ID Search to catch other talkgroups that may not be mapped out.

While Wayne County has been reserved a block on the VIPER network, they most likely aren't using it.

They have their own P25 radio system.

I have that system programmed. I am confused as to how they would communicate with the Highway Patrol within the county since they are on separate P25 systems. I assumed those talkgroups were for that purpose.

No. Those talkgroups are for reserved for Wayne County and Wayne County only. Traditionally the counties don't have direct access to SHP talkgroups, however the SHP units has each county's SO and Mutual Aid talkgroup in their VIPER radio, and most times have a second radio that works on each county's radio system for interoperability.

If not, during emergency incidents where SHP and Wayne need to talk to each other, they probably patch one talkgroup on one system to a talkgroup on another. (Such as the Interoperability talkgroups you see on Wayne's RR page).

In Rockingham County, it is not unusual to hear "David 3xx" talking to C-Comm on the primary dispatch talkgroup for the sheriff's department.
Of course, their dispatches come from Raleigh, Salisbury, etc., but some troopers obviously monitor other "channels," as robkermit has pointed out.
In addition, during the recent holiday festivities, a trooper was talking to a city police officer about the location of a reported fight in progress on the police dispatch talkgroup.

Hate to break the bad news but I have heard encryption. The SHP Microwave techs takgroup is the only one thus far I have caught. But I'm sure other agencies have the capability to encrypt at the flip of a switch or touch of a button.

Been that way since 4.1, and maybe even when the system was analog. Microwave techs, and radio techs are encrypted. Also Hyde County SO.

Woodys Knob

It appears that Woodys Knob in Mitchell County has been offline for quite some time today.

Does anyone know what is going on with this site? An estimate when service should be restored?

Thanks for any information you can provide.

Thanks hiyudurin
There wasn't much radio traffic (around here) on the DOC talkgroups previously, but I'll keep my ears open, and submit any confirmations to the database.
