Med Center is one I would love to hear but I get Iredell County Sheriff Ems Fire and Catawba County Police Fire Ems and then Highway Patrol . That it . Do I need to lock something out ? I live in Huntersville I can see a tower from my house .I have almost everything unlocked .
Thanks guys for your help

I don't live that far from huntersville and I can't pick up anything on the viper system. What set of frequencies did you put in you scanner. No matter what I try, I keep getting "finding ctrl channel" (I have BCD99xt) I also have the same problem with the mecklenburg county digital system. The only system I can pick up is their analog system

Greetings. I travel from Portsmouth VA to Charlotte NC a couple if times a year. I travel down the I-85 corridor. I have never been able to hear 1 word from HCHP on VIPER. I have been scanning the threads on the subject and have updated all the CC's to the new, re-banded ones. I have put in the Re-banded/Custom band table and double checked all the TGID's but still nothing. I have a 396 XLT. If this may be of any help....while scanning I will get hits on the SS meter indicating that it is picking up something, but it will not lock on anything, and my display stays on "NFM" and will not display a frequency. I also do have it set to "P25" Thanks in advance for any insight.

Hey Eugene,
I think the bold part above might be your issue. VIPER does not need a rebanded/custom table as it is 9600 P25. Make sure the sites are set up as P25 systems and not rebanded/custom table and you should be golden.

Thanks so much. I did try that and still no joy. I'm sure it's something simple I'm not doing. I am pretty sure I have it set to P25...but I can only program by hand where I am now. I have read the manual and see how to manually set for P25 for a new system but not how to check/change an existing system. Thanks again.

As far as the 396XT I don't believe you can modify existing system types.
Just program a new P25 system with the site from the database that is closest to you.
Make sure you set the scanner to ID Search and not ID Scan By pressing Func+Scan/Search Key. That will make sure you hear all radio site traffic vs just what is programmed into the scanner.

That would be the "Four County EMC" site (Zone 3 Site 25) in Bladenboro.
I have added it to the database.

Marshall, quick question. Is NCSHP going to keep the trailer as 3600, or going to upgrade it to P25 to match the rest of VIPER?

milf,
Recent correspondence from the State has indicated that the 2C10 system ID is going away and that the State is working on how best to upgrade the trailers to P25 to act as coverage enhancement tools rather than stand alone individual stand alone "mini systems".
As I get more verified information I will keep everyone updated or perhaps MHodgson can chime in with any additions/corrections.

Been awhile since I've been around the trailer but best I recall there was no means to integrate a tower trailer into the network. I'm curious myself to see how that can be done. Not sure if upgraded tower trailers will have a microwave dish or some means of IP site connect directly into the zone controller.

Hey Nathan. Hodgson recently sent this as part of his VIPER 2015 update letter:

Over the past eight years we have received much feedback from the field, in the form of after action reports that related to the operation of the portable tower trailers that the state purchased. The three tower trailers that contained a fully operational five (5) channel trunked radio system have operated on the 2C10 system ID and were limited to standalone operation. Virtually every instance where the trailers were deployed resulted in an after action summary that expressed concerns that the current solution did not provide for an enhancement of the wide area system. Moving forward, we will be beginning the transition this year to convert the trailers to be a coverage enhancement tool rather than a standalone system. This will mean that the trailers will each be assigned unique frequency sets such that more than one trailer could operate in relatively close proximity to each other. We are working diligently with the NRPC to see if a nationwide frequency plan is the best option or to utilize channels within our NC 700 MHz state plan and once we finalize that, we will update all of you accordingly. In addition to the migration of the trailers to P25 wide area operation, with the number of radios now exceeding 65K, we are unable to provide a unique 4.1 ID for each radio programmed for the 2C10 system. This could potentially cause an ID duplication which is not something that we desire to have happen even if it is only applicable during the standalone operation. Finally, as a reminder, the trailers will still have a standalone National Public Safety (NPSPAC) repeater on board that can be used to support a communications solution with approximately a five (5) mile radius of operation in a conventional mode.
