I was just In y'all fair state this last week for the Virginia Beach patriotic festival and had a blast. Thanks for sharing your state with me. Just some observations and comments that I'm sure you locals already know. I noticed the NAS Oceana police haven't migrated to their LMRS yet and you plug either NAS Oceana or Little Creek control channels and you still hear both bases as I guess they are tied into each other. Matter of fact rather than using their VHF comm cart radios, the Blue Angels maintenance as well as comm cart tower advisor used their LMRS radios instead and tied into Oceana's system. Their TGID's were the same as in Pcola. I was in a bad spot to catch any NS Norfolk action. Your VA Beach TRS sounds real good from Atlantic Ave. I was able to catch some 400MHz TRS action from one of the helicopter carriers working off the coast. Didn't last long but was cool. 408.7 was one of the CC I think. And STARS picked up pretty well up I-81 and down I-64 but I did loose the signal going through the valley of Marion, VA on I-81.

Any suggestions? Comments. It was a fun trip.

Glad you had a good time Joe. I was in Norfolk for a wedding and couldn't get away. I did get to spend some time on the Wisconsin, they had a lot of the old electronics in the museum. Fire control, range finders and the old HF radio that was in use until 1991 amazingly enough!

Hope you didn't get caught in those storms Friday night. We barely made it back to the hotel on foot before all heck broke loose!

Come again soon!

Thanks and I'd like to say kudos to the Coast Guard on the Virginia Coast not being sissified like the USCG in Florida (the ENCRYPTION STATE!) as 90 percent of their Comms on CG121 were in the clear. That goes for base (Little Creek and Hampton primarily) as well as the USCG units on the water. In FL the base may be in the clear but the last couple years I've been there the units were 100% encrypted. I love VA Beach! Not to mentions fighters out the donkeys. Master Jet Base East Coast (NAS Oceana) in your backyard, Langley AFB (2 or 3 squadrons of F-22s) to the North, NAS Norfolk in the middle and the worlds largest Naval ship base! You blow Florida panhandle out of the water! Only downside it's such a farther drive.
