ARC Patrol: Virtual control Home Patrol 2

Need help, Program will red and wright to scanner; however when opening the virtual control no usb port is listed & unable to detect a port.

Hi Gommert- any idea how to install the drivers? I’m an IT guy with a lot of computer experience, and this is making me feel like a fool.

yes- no issue locating them. In Device Manager, the HP2 is USB Mass Storage Device in the list- it comes and goes as you plug in and unplug so it's the right device. When you try to update driver, it squawks that the driver is not 64-bit compatible.

Disregard- I am Lord of Idiots. You need to run HP2 in Serial Port mode for Virtual Control, not Mass Storage like you do when programming. The driver for serial port was updateable. No instructions anywhere that I can find...

Spoke too soon. Driver updates, but ARC Patrol immediately goes to NOT RESPONDING and hangs when HP2 is in Serial Port mode and right com port is selected. Windows 11 PC. Rebooted, checked everything, it hangs every time

it does, after the driver update. But virtual control won't show the com port unless I physically disconnect and reconnect the scanner, and then it comes back. May or may not start virtual control, but then soon goes to Not Responding. This is a healthy, generally very stable PC.

I'm not certain, but I think you have to have the Extreme Update installed for virtual to work.

Thanks- I do have the Extreme Update installed, but not sure if that actually is a requirement. I would like to try it on a machine other than Win11, may attempt that next. I use Butel virtual control on other scanners and I am a fan.

I have 3, but have not used virtual in a year or more - at one time I would run unitrunker. I don't have Butel to even try.

Bad (intermittent) USB cable/connectors?

Make sure that the HP1 is plugged in and in serial mode before starting Virtual control. Also double check that there are no errors in the windows device manager related to usb port drivers.

Follow up in case it may help anyone- I have found stability in the virtual control function, but it's an odd sequence of steps needed. If I have the scanner connected and in serial port mode, and try to start virtual control, the program locks up Usually immediately but sometimes after seconds or minutes). I have to start the program, select virtual control, and THEN connect the HP2 for it to work right.
