TRX-1: vista laptops not seeing scanner

hello. i have a trx1 scanner that i have had for about a year. everything as been great until now. i have used the software to update and such in the past with no issues. i went to update it today and my vista laptop will not find my scanner. i turned the scanner off and connected the usb cable. nothing but an error. no drive listed in my computer either. the program updated fine, and i was able to update the database on the scanner by removing the card and putting it in my laptops card reader. but i am unable to update the scanners firmware without a working usb connection. i did download the usb driver from the whistler site, but i dont know how to install it as its not an executable file. any help would be greatly appreciated.
p.s. can the scanner firmware be updated by the sd card without using the cable?

FYI: as with windows xp, VIsta is no longer supported by Microsoft , doing anything online with it leaves the door open to hackers and other malicious software..

The scanner CANNOT be updated via the card,

uninstall and reinstall the COMPORT driver for the scanner. then reboot.

Try the following -

1. With the scanner NOT plugged into the computer do a cold boot.
2. When PC is booted up open up the device manager. While watching the device manager plug the scanner into the PC and see if you see a new device show up without a drive letter.
3. If you see a new device without a Drive letter assign a drive letter to it and it is probably the scanner.

If that does not work then I would do a 100% uninstall of EZScan and start from scratch with an install.

thanks for the replies. im aware of the vista support issue. not much i can do about that right now. i do have avg and firewall. i dont think this is a virus issue. i tried both my vista laptops which used to work fine and now do not. i also tried my daughters windows ten laptop with no success and the same result. i dont know what the comport driver is. sorry. i did watch my device manager as i plug in my scanner. it shows up as unknown device under usb. i have uninstalled and reinstalled the software, tried everything i can think of with no success. i tried to update the drivers but windows says there is no driver in the file i downloaded. why doesn't a device as expensive as this come with a windows installer? the software installs easy, yet the scanner itself relies on windows to recognize it and install the drivers. i have never had this much trouble installing a device. i do appreciate the help.i have no idea what changed to make it not work. i was great before.

Iv tried everything everything. Nothing works. I hear nothing on my Local frequencies. I shouldn't have to be a computer tech just to update this scanner. I Paid $500 for it. It should update itself. Very disappointed.

Your computers hardware just might not be compatible

PM me if you want some help remotely. Install a free program called Teamviewer before you contact me.

usb is only needed for firmware and clock, all other updates can be made by removing the microsd card and using a card reader.

Thanks wackyracer. I'm just frustrated. I'm disabled and just having major back surgery two days ago is not helping my patience much either. Sorry. I did get my frequencies updated and the scanner running via the card reader. Right now being stuck in bed my scanner is a big source of entertainment for me. I will take you up on the remote offer in a few days if that's ok. I need a few more days to recover. Less pain will mean more patience.lol. thanks for all the help and sorry again for my frustration and lack of patience. That's not the normal me.
