I did not see a specific VLF applicable area, so I figured this is a good starting point. This balloon will be transmitting on 14.2 kHz, and they are looking for reception reports. (There will be an APRS beacon, too.)

With an expected launch time of around 7:30 AM EDT +/- 30 minutes, a maximum altitude of 18.64 miles and a VLF A1 signal at 14.7 kHz it is rather doubtful that the States will hear anything. If the balloon could have flown higher and if the experiment were performed at night over the targeted listening area perhaps we would hear something but during daylight hours at that distance to a relatively low flying platform; not much of a chance for the States to hear anything. That said, I still plan to listen with my 160 Meter dipole that is up about 70 feet AGL. The receiver? A FlexRadio Systems FLEX-6500 Transceiver.
