If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Was wondering if its ok to just put voice channels in a Conventional scan for a trunking system near me. It's a medium size system so not to much traffic. If I put just the voice channels in and leave out the control channels I know it will receive. And disable transmit on the voice channels programmed in the Conventional scan.is this legal? Thanks for your input.

Sure. That was what I did before learning non-affiliate scan and learn the programming software. It works ok but when more than a few talkgroups going on at the same time it tends to lose the conversation especially if the voice frequency is rapidly changing. It is possible to extend the voice scan hang time and IF the group call on trunked systems hangs on to the conversation and continues on the same frequency you can hear the reply. Alternatively , a little better it can be setup to to selectable talkgroup and sit on one talkgroup at a time, it will only unmute to that talkgroup while scanning the conventional channels. Make sure if the system is simulcast to select CQPSK as the digital modulation for the personality

i have told many scanner people here to do just that.
and it is the only way for a scanner to hear a system after a system failure.

Yeah I have it working pretty good with programming the id's with names of the departments in a ASTRO list. Makes it a little easier to know who your listening too. I want to extend the delay time. That would help with Replies to some fast transmissions.

I cant seem to get the id's to show on my XTS3000. I put all the settings the same like my XTS5000 but on the 3000 it won't show the id's.

Under display it needs to have ID Display and Scan ID Display checked off and the timers set long enough to show and keep the ID on the screen,, if it doesn't have that option than the radio doesn't have digital ID display feature in the flashcode

I'd dedicate a radio to that system. Program in all the frequencies because any non-active control channel can also be used for voice. You'll have to lock out the active control channel as it changes. Turn the scan delay off or set to zero. Other aspects to program depend on the scanner being used. As long as there's only a single conversation it will be good.
