I am having trouble getting my voice transmissions where I can listen to them using DSD Plus when I am monitoring local frequencies. Weird thing is when I am in the upstate of SC and monitoring the Seneca Palmetto 800 site it comes in clear as a bell. When I try to monitor the Palmetto 800 sites where I live which is in Aiken County it comes in garbled. This is on all of my transmissions whether they are 800 or DMR or anything I receive. This is using the same laptop in both locations. I even set up DSD on another laptop and it also has terrible voice. Can I be getting interference inside the house causing this garbled voice sounds? My TV is 10 ft away and I have my TRX-1 next to the laptop. This sucks not being able to hear what I am monitoring. Thanks

Not much information to make a diagnosis upon. In that both P25 and DMR transmission are garbled on the same hardware at home, then one might conclude some local interference? Yes, you can get interference inside of the house that may be responsible. We have one LCD TV that radiates a tone of crap all across the 800 MHz spectrum!

Do you have a scanner capable of at least monitoring the Palmetto 800 site? If so, does it have the same issue inside of the house? I would also take your laptop away from the house a few hundred feet to see if the problem goes away as a means to determine local RFI inside of your house.

Yes the TRX-1 next to laptop and in same room picks up all transmissions great. (800, DMR, NXDN and analog). All other scanners in house pick up and have great voice sound. I will take one of the laptops outside and see if that helps. Thanks

That was the problem. Went outside and came in clear. Stepped back inside and started sounding bad again. Guess my house is full of interference. Thanks

OK. So is the TRX-1 on it's own indoor antenna? If so, try it on the OmniX. Try the Laptop on indoor antenna if you have one to use.
More importantly, what does the spectrum analyzer (FFT) display from FMPx look like on outdoor vs indoor antenna?

I wonder if you're just getting a poor signal from the OmniX? It sure seems like that is the issue, but the spectrum analyzer display will tell the story. I might suggest inspecting the coaxial line to the antenna. The OmniX uses a Type-N connector whereby the plug on the end of the line may not be fully engaged into the antenna's receptacle.

If the connector is found to be tight, then remove it from the antenna and to inspect the center pin to verity that its flush with concentric collar surrounding it. It's not uncommon for the center pin to pull inward whereby its not flush and does not fully engage into the jack. By the same token, if the center pin sticks out beyond the concentric collar then it can damage the female receptacle inside of the jack.

After doing some more digging and having the help and guidance from a member on this site, it was determined primarily to be a bad usb port on the laptop. The reason I was getting reception at the location in the upper part of the state is I was using the USB port on the left side of the laptop. At home I was usng the one on the right side of the laptop. Of course I had a few more minor tuning issues but this got the bulk of the problem solved.
