Volmet info

I need some help with some terminology. When listening to Shannon Volmet (lady announcer) she says what sounds like "Cavocay" (sp & pronounce ?) and I can't figure out what it is ! It's not Keflavik. Is it supposed be a city name ? or a reference to something ? Nothing like it in this nice chart I found while Googling to find an answer. http://tantimat.com/tech/HFVolmet_1.pdf I have also heard the male volmet announcer say that same sounding word. There are many Tube vids of volmet, but couldn't find and example of what I'm hearing. Every time I hear it, it drives me nuts ! lol


The other word I hear is Tempo, not temperature as that word is fully pronounced. Could this be Tempo Northern Ireland ? YouTube - Shannon Volmet - 5505 khz

Moved to the utilities forum, as these kinds of stations are considered...

Anyway, I've always assumed 'Tempo' to be a shorthand for temperature. Usually it will say something like 'Tempo 4.8', which I would assume to be a Celsius degrees measurement.

CAVOK - ceiling and visibility ok, another term is CAVU - ceiling and visibility unlimited.
TEMPO - temporarily, usually applied to visibility in rain. Here they would say "tempo 500metres in showers". Other may say the distance in miles.
I take it that you understand OKTA - cloud cover in eighths - "5 OKTAS at 2000feet" means 5/8 of the sky is obscured by cloud at 2000feet. Very occasionally you may hear "9 OKTAS" which means that "it's so foggy I can't see the clouds"

Thanks ! Now THAT makes sense. I didn't know about OKTA, now I do. The above pdf file came from here, Meteorological Charts Analysis Forecast North Atlantic Europe there may be some info others might find useful.
