Out of curiosity I was wondering if there are any websites that show/list volunteer opportunities using ham radio in CT. Like for road/bike races, local/community events, parades, etc.

You may contact your local chapter of the American red cross. Or you may also contact your local office of emergency management. You can participate on skywarn nets and also the R.A.C.E.S. division. That division is through the towns emergency management. I'm pretty sure connecticut has a REACT group also.

Your best bet (if your licensed already) is to jump on a local repeater and ask who your local HAM radio clubs are, and get in contact with them. Most reputable ham clubs that do volunteer service will have a pointman.

Alternatively, you could also try to stop by ARRL in Newington and see what resources they have.

Okay, thanks for the reply's. I do know that I can contact people and places directly, but I was wondering if there was a website that listed volunteer opportunities with ham radio. It would be nice to see what's going on with stuff like that.

I used to be a member of gbarc, greater bridgeport amateur radio club, they were fairly active as volunteers for road races etc. they meet in the bridgeport EOC and staff the EOC during emergency activations and were always looking for volunteers, you should look them up

You can try CT ARES Web Site, sometimes they post needs for volunteers on their website, and their mailing list.

Also, they do make announcements for volunteers sometimes on the ARES net for the section the need is in.

I have never seen a website as you described. If a local amateur radio public service club that keeps its website up to date, perhaps there is an events page. I think your most efficient approach would be to contact your county's OEM that supervises the county RACES-ARES organization. If you don't want to join RACES-ARES, you could at least listen to their regularly scheduled nets. HTH.

If you're into either or both emergency incident dispatching/notification and emergency/disaster/severe weather communication for the state, I run a system. Not quite ham, we use Zello... Same idea though.

Let me know if you want more info.
