About mid May a question was asked on this forum about police patches to Volusia County Fire dispatch talkgroups. At that time I responded that it was likely an austerity move to save the County money by utilizing (fire) dispatchers down time to save budget dollars. (Seems sensible to me.)
I'm now thinking that is not the case. I had the opportunity to talk with a knowledgeable person, who told me that FIRE Dispatch TGs are never patched to LEO wants/warrants TGs or anything else. In fact FIRE dispatch is located in a separate building located some miles from the Sheriffs Central Dispatch building. Also he does not think that FIRE has the capability to patch to LEO TGS other than Air One and VC wide.
Second, I have been paying close attention to all traffic on FIRE 1 and FIRE 2. Especially to the voices of the dispatchers themselves. The FIRE dispatchers are definitely not the same folks as the dispatchers running the info checks for LEOs in the field.
I am using a GRE PSR-800 to monitor the Volusia System. Patches to FIRE 1 and FIRE 2 ID'd on my scanner are usually to TG 15-153, 15-154 or 15-155. I occasionally hear FIRE TAC TGs patched also.
So that leads to a few questions.
1. Can FIRE patch to LEO wants/warrants TGs?
2. Are users of other scanner manufacturers or models, such as Uniden's HP1, GRE PSR-500, etc , hearing the patches?
3. Are Fire Department personnel hearing these patches on their County issued radios?
4. Are police officers and deputies hearing FIRE dispatches when patched?
5. Or is all this a "software issue" for the PSR-800?
