To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

VP8000 Bluetooth programming

Haven't seen a discussion of this anywhere - does the VP8000 actually support programming over Bluetooth? I see it listed as a feature in some of the marketing material, however, its not listed as a software option (Bluetooth and BLE exist). I'd kind of assumed it would be another cheap feature (ie WiFi and OTIP being 2 purchases), but its not listed. I also see no mentions of it in Armada's documentation or interface. My radio is on-order from the factory right now, and I have OTIP so its by no means the end of the world if you can't program over bluetooth, but I am curios - is it actually a feature, or is the marketing material wrong? If it is functional, how does it work? Connect to the radio as a PAN like on APXs? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the info - OTIP it is. I do wonder why Bluetooth programming listed in the brochures though.

BT programming works great, it's the primary way I program my 8000. Just pair the radio and then go to Bluetooth Devices -> Join a Personal Area Network and connect. It will show up automatically in Armada, similar to how it works over Wifi (in fact the underlying mechanism is the same for BT & Wifi)

Great to know, thanks so much! Sounds even simpler than APX CPS if its auto-discovering. It will probably be my primary way of programming for a while.

I haven't done it yet, but do I remember correctly that the radio has to be on the same subnet as the Armada being used to program it? Also, can you configure the radio for OTIP from the default programming and the front panel or do you always have to cable-program it first to set up the network config?

Per what I've read, yes, radios must be on the same subnet as Armada. I dont yet have my radio in-hand so I cannot answer the second question, but if its coming from a dealer, you can probably have them enable either Bluetooth or WiFi end-user selection in the codeplug before sending it to you.
