• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I can't figure how to make private calls work. I may be way off base, but this is what I saw in the help file.

I set the ID in Call List, I set Call List Settings to Unlimited, Standard, NA, Unlimited.

I set the channel to have the setup Call List Settings.

On the radio I go the the DMR Repeater, i hit TX contact, the list shows up with ID:XXXX. When I try to select I get a message "KEY Fail". I've set the system Unit Call to No Key. I even went to the channel and Security Override - Strapped Clear. No idea what I am missing.

Any pointers?

Ok, so I'm able to make individual calls if I make a separate channel for each private call and override to strapped clear. I can't get it to work via the TX Contact list, even though the system, general options 2 unit call is set to no key and the channel is strapped clear. No idea why, but that's the work around for now.

I do this all the time and cannot figure out how my settings differ from yours. I do have the channel set up for list selectable Talk Groups. I did that so I could change Talk Groups not because I thought it was necessary for Private calls (maybe it is). I have channels that are encrypted switched, strapped clear or secure and have never had your type of problem. As far as encryption goes, you have to use CPS software keys or hardware (kvl) keys but cannot do both (get check box right--I use KVL so I uncheck software keys). When I use Private Call from a list selection it will time out and go back to regular TG at some point. If you use list selectable to change TG it will persist forever until you manually reset it.

I tested a channel that was TG strapped and was still able to make a Private call.

I'm on 8.44.10, and it didn't give me a fit about ARC4 software keys for DMR and hardware keys for AES/DES, works with both versions of encryption.

The private call is for amateur radio, so it cannot have encryption. I've set a key for unit call, i've tried it from the list, no matter what I do, it fails unless it's setup as it's own channel strapped clear. I just tried it on the P25 side, even though there isn't any unit setup, it still complains about a key fail.

When I go into select keys in the menu, it recognizes the hardware keys are AES & DES, and the the software keys are ARC. If that's the only issue I'm having, I'm pretty happy.

I can't get mine to fail regardless of settings. I would re check my keys and make sure that the SLN and the key ID numbers are correct. I've not had a problem on viking but sure have on other radio makes. I've same firmware except ends in .64 if that matters.
