I had a very brief but interesting reception of VSP today. I was heading east in Highland County on US 250 between McDowell and Head Waters. I received just a snippet of a transmission from a unit and never heard them again. The SDS200 displayed that it was the Culpeper 2 TG but via the Bath County Hydro site. That really surprised me, and I could only surmise that the unit was either in far southern Rockingham County and happened to hit that tower rather than Sounding Knob in Highland, or, was out of his district on some other business. I didn't catch what was said as it was so quick and I guess I only caught the tail end of it. But I found it a very curious thing.

That’s cool. It kind of makes me think maybe another unit associated with the Bath site has Culpeper 2 on. There’s multiple sites that I think a STARS radio would affiliate around Rockingham before the Bath site. Reddish Knob maybe a possibility, though. It’s technically in Augusta County (Appomattox 2), but Rockingham troopers certainly have gone up there, since the rest of the road is in Rockingham. I would imagine the radios would be out of range some of the time, and then be able to re-affiliate when at the top. And they could reach multiple sites from the top.
