I have listing that says Signal 4 is "Serving Papers". For that task, they might send a backup, depending upon the subject and nature of the "paper".
Hopefully this copy will appear readable and understandable on the thread...

OK ... it didn't post too well. What there should be is two columns: number and its meaning, number and its meaning. The last item on the right-hand column is "Blue" and not a number (as in "Code Blue"). With the push for law enforcement front-line personnel to be either EMT or Medical First Responder certified, medical terms are included in the signals.

Wanted Subject

I heard later that Signal 4 was confirmed and the warrent was being sent to the jail. The trooper took the subject into custody...

I guess this could be the same as serving papers...

Thanks for the help. By the way the list was understandable.

Signal-4 and plain english

Since the switch to plain english and no 10-codes, 10-4 is the exception, this is perhaps
the Signal-4 in question.

Signal 4 – Confidential/critical information to be relayed. This will be used
instead of 10-16/10-48 to indicate that a possible hit as been received. It can
also be used by the dispatcher to alert the unit that information needs to be
relayed to them that should not be heard by the subject. The unit should respond
with the current location and indicate wheather or not the dispatcher can go ahead
with the information. If the hit information includes a response from NCIC that
indicates one of the terrorist codes – the dispatchers will still use those codes
prior to transmitting the information*:

I can pretty much say that those signals aren't used by VSP. Though, I gotta ask where did that list come from? It's pretty detailed :)

Whenever a unit uses their MDT to check a violator for driver's licensure, the system automatically checks for wanted status. Sometimes, a "like match" will pop up, based on the Soundex system/method (which see). In these instances, the dispatcher is alerted that a unit has a possible wanted hit, and the CAD system provides the dispatcher with all the information (unit checking, name of possible wanted person, etc) so that they may verify the information and secure additional resources for the unit in the field. This explains the dispatchers inquiring "out of the blue" on all these "possible Signal 4" people. Just an officer safety procedure thing.

ETA: Richrowl has the correct definition.

Enjoy the leftover turkey, everyone!!

I listen to the Troopers alot.. Signal 4 sounds like the person is wanted. A few times I have heard the Dispatcher or the Trooper say it is a false hit. Which sounds like the person he has stopped is not wanted but the NCIC has info that is close to the info given.

I have a Radio Shack scanner and use to be able to pick up the VSP. Now I can't even get the county police or the fire department. I even tried hooking up an outside antenna and I get nothing.

Can anyone tell me what kind of scanner I should look into getting? I heard that VSP went to some kind of STARS thing. I was looking at the Scanner Master site and they have triple trunking and digital triple trunking and trunk tracking and all kinds of stuff that I have no clue as to the meaning.

If someone could please recommend a scanner that would work for the VSP mainly and then maybe the county which I heard went digital I would be most appreciative.

Thanks so much for your help!

GRE scanners are best buys at Scanner Master. PSR-500 (handheld) at 400 or PSR-600 (base/mobile) at 430. Either will track STARS and other digital systems very well. Uniden 396XT (handheld) or 996XT (base/mobile) will also track systems very well.

Radio Shack has the GRE models as Pro-106 (handheld) or Pro-197 (base/Mobile).

I own the two GRE's plus a pair of Pro-197's, all work well on all digital systems I've monitored.

3902... Hope your post means good? Not sure what it meant. Also I traveled to Orange Va last week for a class at the VDFP Division 2. I programmed all the conventional channels and here is what I heard.

Richmond 159.000 ** heard NO traffic on 158.985
Culpeper I heard traffic on both channels
Fairfax I heard traffic on both channels
Appomattox I heard traffic on only one channel
Chesapeake I always hear traffic on both channels.

I have been in Boston the past five days, and will be back in Virginia later this afternoon.

Many 10-42's

Yessirrr, your explanation was spot-on (my band's bass player sez that alot...it must mean good things).

And, I dont hear conv ch2 anymore, either. I need to ask my friendly neighbourhood radio tech about that.
