VSWR - Is it Critical for receiving only?

Greetings
I like to install a vertical antenna for my R8600 Icom. I haven't decided on which one to purchase, but is VSWR important for receiving only?

Not really. Of course, a tuned antenna for a given band will both bring in more signals (and noise) and can, since it is a tuned circuit, reject stronger signals outside the desired band that could otherwise interfere with the band the antenna is tuned to. A vertical for general coverage of the HF spectrum isn't going to be resonate everyplace, but will provide a good balance overall.

You will find the vertical antenna to be noisier than a horizontal wire! In most cases, YMMV.

Yes, I realize that. My current end-fed Par does an adequate job, but I would like to try a vertical
