To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a 2100 that is programmed as a two tone page decoder. Works great... except when I want to run it on a small regulated power supply (2.5A). Here's the thing. I can run it on a 12A power supply with a tx frequency programmed into it and it will decode, open up and reset just fine. If I put it on the 2.5A supply it will power cycle once the 2nd tone starts to come across. After a bit I figured out it was because it was trying to transmit upon decoding. So I deleted the tx frequency making it receive only. After that it... either power supply it will not decode, beep, open up, ect... the '1' on the display just flashes and I have to power cycle the radio to get back to 'normal'. I've done a lot of programming on Kenwood, Motorola & Icom but can't figure this out. I've seen the transpond upon decode feature in other radios but can't figure out if this radio has it or where to turn it off in the program. My service monitor has verified that the radio is transmitting when it decodes. Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

How/what was it trying to transmit? Specs for radio say 2.5 amps rx and 11 amps tx. You may have hurt your 2.5 amp supply, have you measured voltage when radio connected and on ?

It's hard to say what it's transmitting... It's very short, less than half a second. The page tx or service monitor is still sending when it does it. I haven't been able to determine if it's more than just carrier. As for the power supply it's till going.

I work as a two-way radio tech. If you intend to transmit, the radio comes with factory 15-amp fuse (because it's a 50-watt output mobile radio).

In order to operate it off of a AC to DC power supply (in a house, etc), the power supply has to be able to be minimum of 15 amps "continuous" and it might have a surge rating of 20 amps.

I have a Vertex VX-4204 at my house with a base antenna on a tower, and I use a Samlex 23 amp surge, 20-continuous. I also have an Astron power supply that has 25 amps continuous (30 surge) and a Radio Shack 13.8v 19 amps power supply (22-508B).

On a different note (for receiving): The 2.5 amp power supply might not have a constant 2.5 amps continuous, so when it drops below the radio isn't getting enough juice to make it work properly (even receiving). The radio draws amps just sitting turned on, but uses more when it receives & audio comes out the speaker.

Hope some of this helps.

I appreciate the help from those that have responded. I would like to focus the question I'm asking a little bit. What feature selection in the CE82 program for the 2100 might be causing it to transmit upon decoding a two tone page?

My experience programming other radio lines leads me to think there is something I am overlooking in the program that is causing this to happen. In my opinion there is no reason for the radio to begin transmitting anything when it decodes unless you need it to (ie. transpond feature to tell the paging tx that the decoding radio received the page). Regardless of what power supply I am using I do not want it working this way if I can help it.

Again, thank you to those who have responded. If anyone has noticed this with their 21/2200 or has a hunch on what might be causing this or what Vertex calls this or anything like that please let me know.

Check 5-tone system

I don't see the option under 2-tone decoding (at least in my software version of 3.02) but under 5 tone decoding, there is an option for "Auto TX" which sounds like a feature that does exactly what you're describing.
Looks like you have to change the signaling type to 5-tone, then go to 5-tone decode under signaling, then it perhaps it might be the list under "Transpond" ... ENC-1
