Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi All,

So I consider myself fairly radio and computer savvy so I was not worried when I purchased my new VX-351 w/ software and cable.
I installed the software onto a brand new computer using Windows 7. Did a Save As so I had a default settings as a back up, and started entering my RX and TX freqs. Succesfully entered them all, plugged in USB cable, Windows automatically found and I installed plug ins. It assigned them to the appropriate COM port HOWEVER, Vertex software greys out the COM port in the Configuration tab, it only allows me to select the baud rate???

Any ideas on what I may be doing wrong??

I have a VX-351 love this little radio. If you are using CE86 for the programming software you need to do this:

1. Click on "File"
2. Click on "New"
2b. It will bring up a pop-up menu, select whether your radio is LCD or Non-LCD
3. Press "Okay"
4. Click on "File"
5. Click on "Configure"

You should now be able to configure your port, and begin radio programming
