• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

So I have read on here that CE59 is freely available online but this is from a post many years ago. Then in a recent post(closed to responses) it said that a 1 second google search yielded a free download for CE44. I tried to replicate such a search to no avail. So the question is should i pay vertexradiogroup dot net for access to their CPS downloads or is this just an attempt to cash in on the fact that this sort of software is difficult to obtain for free. It sure seems like a radio this old would have the software available for free. I am not asking for any piracy to take place. If anything I am asking because I don't want to pay for piracy. Is vertexradiogroup kosher and legal or are there better cheaper or more legal ways to obtain this software. Thanks for helping out a newbie to the commercial radio scene.

The problem is Motorola acquired Vertex and now keeps software on MOL which you need to be registered to access. When it was Yaesu/Vertex the software was free for dealers to download and there were not restrictions on distribution as there is with Motorola where you sign your life away and pay a hefty amount just for 1 radio's software. Part of the reason you don't find software in the wild is Vertex was not as big of a name as Motorola or Kenwood and there wasn't the abundance of surplussed equipment. I can not speak of that group. I've seen their list, but like those selling "new" CDs on sites, it's just a way to make a quick buck. I will assure you CE59 5.04 IS out there. I don't know if you have VHF or UHF, but if it's the latter and a D version (450-520), you are only going to get down to the 440-445 as the absolute bottom of the band without messing with the VCO. If it's VHF or an A version (400-470) you'll be good. There is a couple of pages here regarding modding the softwares range to Ham range. Good Luck and 73s
