If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I’ve got a new P929 and CE76 v3.12. I’ve got everything I need programmed, however the mic audio is very low. Using basic alignment, I can increase the setting. from the defualt 80, but that is never retained after reading back to the radio. I can affect and change other settings, just not Mic Gain. Every version of the software I’ve used behaves the same, 3.x. Have not tried older.

Also, how does one put the radio into FPP mode? I’ve tried what I think was explained here but no success. Thanks in advance….

Use the newest software revision you have.

It sounds like with an "80" you're in the service menu?. Try adjusting mic gain by Common, Power Saving, Mic Gain. I'd think -10db to +10db should be enough?
There's also the speaker mic gain right below it.

FPP was just covered for the 829. Change the software shortcuts target to space /f as in start menu properties of the shortcut Vertex Standard\CE76 for Windows\CE76Win.exe" /f
Then go to Common and Field Program and check what you want in your FPP settings.

Yes, in manufacturer mode the Mic gain option appears in Basic Alignment tab two. Any change is always reset to 80. Other settings do hold and are reflected. Is there another gain adjust somewhere? Any hints why this reverts?

As for FPP, I did set the option in Common, and it is reflected on read of radio. Holding the two side buttons below PTT switch on power up has no effect. The buttons are at default assignment, no change. Is there another sequence?

I did not. I gave up after getting a VX-P 824, smaller. As the P929 was NOS new and never programmed, I wonder if it was missing some enablement to do that. But its been back burnered.

Same with the alignment mic audio, but in that case I finally noticed the CPS menu setting for mic gain and that works.

Turn the radio off. Looking at the pic, the 3rd pin from the left on the top row & the 2d pin from the left are the 2 pins that you would short together & then turn the radio on. It will show field program and ask for a password which should typically be 000000 unless a separate one was set which you should be able to see in the p c software. There will then be different screens that you can scroll Through to get to the different channels and zones using the channel selector knob.

You'll have to use a pretty small gauge piece of jumper wire to short the 2 pins. it's a little finicky to try to do it that way & turn the radio on at the same time. Vertex actually made a programming plug similar to bendix's programming plug that screwed onto the spkr mic pad. It did nothing more than short the two pins together.

Should say 2d pin from left on bottom row
