To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello I was hoping someone could help me on an issue i am having. So basically I have 4 vx231's that are all programmed on the same freq (frequency detected on uniden bearcat as 471,325) they can all RX and TX amongst each other but when i program my baofeng to the same frequency nothing happens. I cannot RX or TX between any of the VX231s and the baofeng.'

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

Is the frequency an input for a repeater by chance? I think 471.xxx is in the uhf tv band in the US. However I'm assuming you're not in the US because of the use of the frequency and the use of " , " as opposed to " ." With frequency description. Knowing your country would probably help so we can look up a band plan and see what the standard use is for.

Do you have a monitor button on the vx213. One that temporarily opens the squelch. If so , with your other hand, key the Baofeng. If this works, you are transmitting, and you have a pl tone, or ctcss problem. Either its a ctcss of maybe a dcs code setting. Not sure what scanner you have. Some will do a tone search. Also maybe the 471.325 transmits 5 mhz higher, its a repeater. If so, set the Baofeng to 471.325 for receive and 476.325 for transmit. What you have found, indicates you are close to working this out.

The signal may be an image of another frequency. I'm not super familiar with the band plans up there. But I know my uniden has had some issues with frequencies imaging over to other bands. It very well could be on 471.325 but since it's showing up on multiple frequencies check the 150-174 MHz area and see if it shows up there. If you have the vertex very close to your scanner trying to figure out what frequency it is on that can definitely be the cause of a overload to the scanners receiver. But if you're miles away from the transmitter it very well could be in the frequency range you're seeing it in. Sorry if that sounds like a mess, but I'd give the vhf band a scan.

cmjonesinc: suggested you are receiving am image. Can you tell by looking at the Vertx radios, are they uhf or vhf models. Take the battery off, there is usually a label on the inside. Also unscrew the antenna and look on the bottom of the antenna. Sometimes there is an indication on what the antenna is for. Lastly, sometimes uhf receives are harmonic of a vhf frequency. Usually it is 3 times trhe vhf frequency, try the Baofeng at 157.105. If ,the radio is desensing the scanner, if somebody can monitor the scanner for you, walk outside, go to maybe a basement room or upstairs room. Thia will reduce your desensing problem.

I knew someone with more experience with harmonics would chime in. I know of it, but I can't direct anyone in the appropriate direction. But as teufler said, check out 157.105. That sounds way more of a common frequency than anything in the 471 band

This is a report extract from all frequencies in OntaRIO PROVIENCE. It appears like 471.325 is a "birdie" or your scanner is detecting something but not a signal. You will notice the frequencies jump from 470.1492 to 476.XXX. Canada appears to have that missing 5 mhz to something or someone else. Maybe take the scanner to a frequency counter and get the answer.

New Finding

Just a little bit of background here. I am using a Uniden Bearcat 246xt to scan the vertex radios. I scanned them once again today and I found that 459.2250 dcs331 works on the baofeng and the vertex. But here is my dilemma. If I talk through the vertex radios I can hear it on the baofeng. But if I talk through the baofeng the vertex Green lights light up but I cannot hear any transmission.

I GOT THEM TO WORK WOOHOOO I had to go into T-DCS and it was trial and error from that point trying every possible option. But now they work! YESSS Im soo happy

Thank you soo much for all your help I greatly appreciate it

the Canadian Ontario band plan for 470+ Mhz matches the USA band plan. The 471 freq if that is where the units actually are is allocated for TV.

I suspect a birdie as well. If he has a close call scanner he should be able to get a good hit on it if he takes the antenna off the scanner while TXing near it.
