• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

Just yesterday we where listening to some 911 calls. Just to lighten it up they let us listen to funny ones last.

A lady calls in "is it legal for people to be lighting fireworks at this hour?
calltaker "yes it is, there is no time to stop"
lady "then is this legal?" then she goes outside and starts screaming and hangs up.

This 9-1-1 call came in this past Sunday, 8/6/06. Unfortunately I don't have an audio clip of the call.

One of my call-takers answers a 9-1-1 call from a man who is upset because he says he and is family are being discriminated against in a restaurant because people who have arrived after him are already eating and he and his family are still waiting for restaurant staff to attend to them. My call-taker advises him that:

1): This is NOT a 9-1-1 emergency.

2): This situation does not fit the criteria for a police response unless he's being threatened or harassed by the restaurant staff. The caller stated no harassement or threats were received, only that everyone else is eating but his family.

The call-taker then transferred him into the 9-1-1 console non-emergent message.

Several minutes later the gentleman calls back, again on 9-1-1, complaining that we still hadn't arrived on-scene to order the restaurant staff to serve his family. This time we transfer him to our sergeant who advised the caller, again, that this was not a 9-1-1 emergency, and that unless the caller was being harassed or threatened by the staff that it did not fit the criteria for a police response.

The caller then hung up, rather angry and upset with us.

What made this call so good was that the restaurant he was calling us from is a buffet-style (aka serve yourself) restaurant. How they missed everyone else walking back and forth from the buffet tables with plates of food in their hands is beyond me!
