Just moved from Spring/Woodlands area to Walker County/New Waverly area. Sold my scanner & unication g4 after mcso dispatch channels went encrypted last year. Is there anything local worth monitoring in this area that's still in the clear? Huntsville PD? Walker county PD? Sam Houston National Forest?

If I'm looking at it correctly, Walker County is 50/50 encrypted. Huntsville PD is in the clear. Is there enough unencrypted traffic to buy another unication g4?

I’ve personally never seen encryption on any Walker Co groups. Doesn’t mean it’s not there, but you should be able to hear almost everything there. Also, you can still get fire and EMS in Montgomery County, no?

Yes I think you can still get fire/ems in Montgomery county. Thanks I'll give walker co groups a try.

MC FD/EMS are clear, and I've never had an issue with any Walker County ENC, in fact I monitor Huntsville/SHSU regularly from Conroe seeing as my daughter is a student there. Don't forget DPS is in the clear, so it's still possible to get a picture of major events.

I was up there two weeks ago and Huntsville PD along with SO was pretty active.

You may want to throw some of the interop channels in as MCSO may use those for interop with them. Also have MCSO Ops 1-3 as they are used for manhunts and other incidents. Sometimes I’ll hear Conroe PD talk to them via the ops channels as well, but that incredibly rare.
