While listining to an active fire in Wall Twp around 11:00 PM last night I heard the Chief tell everyone to switch their radios to Fireground 5-at least I think thats what was said. Anyway whatever they switched to put a quik end to my scanning activities for the night.

My radio is programed direct from the RR Database. A quick look through both the Wall and Monmouth County frequencies did not turn up any named Fireground 5.

Sorry if this is a noob question but I am after all a noob.

Thanks,
ajb

If you look in the database here, the numbers in the Alpha Tag column are the channel numbers. Wall Fire 5 is 154.325 PL 131.8. However, it's simplex (no repeater), so you would have to be near the area where they are transmitting on it to be able to hear them. I live in the extreme northeast section of Brick, near the Brielle border, and was listening to the fire also, and when they switched, I was able to receive some sporadic, broken up transmissions on that frequency.

Channel 1, 154.400 and Channel 3, 155.760 are the only repeater channels. The rest are simplex. Channel 3 is used during the weekday daytime hours by the school buses. I believe it's actually licensed to the Board of Education, but they must have agreed to share it with the FD. 154.400 is listed twice, as Channel 1 and Channel 2. 1 is repeater and 2 is used off of the repeater as simplex. Same thing with 155.760, listed twice, as Channel 3 and Channel 8. 3 is a repeater. 8 is used off the repeater as a simplex channel.

Channel 7 is Monmouth County Fire Channel 7. Most, if not all, Monmouth County fire departments have that channel in their radios so they can used it as a common frequency for fire ground communications when departments from different municipalities respond to an incident. Monmouth County Fire 5 is used primarly by Long Branch FD as their primary fire ground channel, although other departments have access to it.
