Anyone using this case, and if so what are your impressions regarding durability, and ease in using the keys, or seeing the readout?

Question 2: Is Waltel only Company at present offering a case for sale?

I have the Waltel case. I also have the case sold by Scanner Master. I personally prefer the Scanner Master case, as the scanner fits better in it. The Waltel case (actually made by Bee Electronics) has no way to keep the scanner from falling out of it if it's turned upside down. The Scanner Master case (not sure who makes it, there's an "AW" or "WA" logo on the back) has a rubber cord that fits around the antenna to keep the radio from falling out of the case. This case required me to remove the belt clip from the back of the scanner to get it to fit in the case. With the Waltel case, you could leave the belt clip attached and it would still fit inside the case. Both cases are made of the same material. Both cases have a clear plastic piece that covers the display and keypad. They're equal in their ability to allow you to press the keys while the radio is in the case.

Wish I would have seen this thread before buying the Bee case from Waltel. W4KRR is absolutely right about the 246T falling out of the case if it turns upside-down, which it can easily do if you're using the cellular style clip that allows the case to rotate freely on your waist. Guess I'll look into the ScannerMaster case now.

Uniden also has a 246 case. It is similar to the Waltel one in that it doesn't have any mechanical means of securing the scanner. However, it's a fairly snug fit, especially with the belt clip on the radio. I haven't had any problem with mine falling out.

I actually bought 2 of the Uniden cases. I modified one by removing the "button" on the back and cutting an elliptical slot for the radio's belt clip to slip through. That holds the 246 inside very well.

Can you post some pictures of the Uniden case? What type of belt clip does it use?

I'm going to take Waltel's case down to the local Cleaners/Alterations shop and have them sew on a small elastic loop so I can slip it around the bnc connector. Same idea as ScannerMaster's case. I don't want the radio falling out of the case if it swivels around on the belt clip.
