I have an R-20- I love it. My main monitoring targets are Air band, military air, VHF marine and some HF. It takes a while to learn the ropes, the software helps with programming. It has many features that none of the other high end wide band scanning receivers have such as the built in record feature. It also has a dual frequency receiver.
So depending on what you want it to do, it might be the right radio for you. It does not receive trunked communications and there is a chunk of the 800 mHz band that is blocked in addition to the cell phone frequencies.
Also consider the AOR 8200 MK3
I am too looking at both of these I already have the Icom IC-R3
Uniden BCD396T, and the RadioShack Pro97
But I want MORE lol
