Per the Warren Council Agenda a few months back they purchased encryption for what I believe is only DB stuff. They didn't spend enough to get it for all.

I remember this, because I was the one that posted the thread about this after it was passed. I was fearing that I wasn't going to be able to listen to my hometown police force anymore.

I'm still holding my breath though, because it seems like total encryption is something the new commish would push for. I hope this doesn't happen.

This gets to me.... Scanning is a hobby, and its those people who choose to use scanners to commit crimes that take our hobby away.

Its too bad that communications are choosing encryption, but i guess its for the best, the safety of the officers, and the ability to do there work efficiently.

Well just for a note their is a way around it of course thou it is merely impossible to crack "live" but witha tape recording software and should say tweaking it can be uncrypted..Working on it at the moment but until i get something final instead of partial i will post somewhere

Just yesterday he posted on another encryption thread to ask for any "underground" mods, that was pretty fast if he developed a decoding scheme overnight for an impossible-to-break encryption method :)

I think you're confusing the older audio frequency inversion scrambling with the modern day encryption.

i dunno its been awhile since i've gotten back into this, justknow that i recorded some "scrambled" and was only able to get half of it , was basically survillence somewhere, but like i say i ain't here to cause any turmoil or anything , quite possibly pass something on, i may be "ol school" and new to trunking...

You are referring to speech inversion. I'm not sure any agencies use that anymore. It is COMPLETELY unrelated to true encrtyped comms. Old school is fine - but realize when new school classes aren't on the same wavelength.

You are correct. The old audio inversion was pretty easy to decode. And remember it was an analog format. The DES encryption of today and beyond is pretty tough stuff.
