I have heard nothing on the Washington County frequencies in the past two days. Does anyone know why? Have they switched to their new trunked system possibly?

Washington County is supposed to switch over to a trunked system in the future. Maybe the freqs he posted are for it?

Latest News Update Posted on 2008-07-21 20:47:48

This TRS should be online by spring of 2009. Moreover, an agreement has been reached between the state of Maryland, to integrate this TRS with the planned statewide 700 MHz TRS, where both systems will share radio towers in Washington County. In addition, Allegany and Garrett Counties are planning to join this radio system in 2009, which will result in this system becoming regional in nature.

When completed in 2009, Allegany, Garrett, and Washington Counties, will be able to intercommunicate with each other, and the neighboring state of West Virginia, as all entities will be using the same Project 25 technology on the UHF band. This will allow for greater interoperability throughout the region, as all public safety first responders will be on one common radio platform. In turn, they will also be able to communicate across the entire state of Maryland, as both systems will integrated through a central control system.

The projected date for opening of the new communications center, along with use of the new trunked system, has been pushed back to Sept 1, 2009. All of the lowband freqs are still active at this time. Some limited testing of the sites for the trunked system will probably be starting soon, but lowband will still be around at least until the fall, if not beyond.

The RR database lists the following freq's for vehicle repeaters....I've never used them before...anyone ever hear them being used?

458.3875 (100.0pl)
460.1500 (136.5pl)

For that matter...ever hear them use Channel 2 - 39.6000?

Yes, I have heard WCSO traffic on 39.600. Not close enough to hear any UHF traffic.

I was home over Christmas for a month and was the person who submitted the data on the UHF mobile repeaters. If you have a decent antenna in the downtown area, they are easier to hear. Or just go sit outside a restaurant where some sheriff's deputies are eating lunch and they should have their repeaters on so they can hear the low-band on their UHF portables. Actually, if you plug both of those freqs in w/ PL search, you'll probably find more. When I was home, I found quite a few PL tones in use, possibly even some for the fire department. But I only posted what I was able to confirm.

By the way, I wouldn't expect to hear much on low-band anyway. They are simplex which makes it difficult to hear the mobiles at all. I look forward to the day that they do switch over to their new P25 system. I just hope they don't go encrypted.

Sure hope the Wash Co system and the co-planned system to be connected by the state of Maryland to allow all the 3 western counties communicate together works as flawlessly as law enforcement expects it to.

Sad to say...going...going......gone will be the days of a powerful 100 watt mobile transmitter with full FM modulation that could be monitored anywhere in the county..."Loud & Clear" like if your life depended on it, and for some, it does! I have monitored one MAYDAY call in my lifetime and hope never to hear another.
