I having problems monitoring the control channel 158.01 and getting nothing even when I do a Talk Group Search. But when I run the scanner with the talk channels like in a conventional channel I get alot of transmissions.

I have also since noticing the talk channels do have data I programmed the talk channels into a analog scanner and when that scanner stops on a channel nothing is displayed on the scanner when monitoring the control channel. Also, other sites around here work just fine like Summit and Webster.

I have veryified that the trunk data is exactly the same for both.

Thanks for your help. Im using a Uniden BC796D.

Your log indicates that you are not hearing the CCh well enough to do anything. In the shortened report you submitted, the best decode rate available was 9% that means during that period you missed 91% of the signals. Since most OSW's are multi-word affairs, your scanner is not seeing enough to decode the trunking commands.

Now that is the problem, the question is why? Your location says you are in Watertown, so there may be something interfering with the signal on 158.0100, do you have a portable scanner capable of decoding the state system? If so, wander around with it and see, failing that, start shutting down all possible interfering items in the vicinity of your 796, things like computers, DSL modems, other electronics to see if you can isolate the problem.

Same data about 15 ft from the tower with the only thing running a laptop about 5 ft away and my car on battery only with a BC350C. Maybe it's a test site for an encrypted control channel, god forbid the state screw with us? I hear SDHP on the Webster Tower on WTN INT/SRC quite often. Only problems is that the Webster and Summit towers are too far away to use the BC350C to see the data from them on UniTrunker or maybe the control channel is too distorted when put in thru the sound card on Watertown.

I'll contact my inside source for information tomarrow.

at this point no sites are ENC only the fed stuff is (Radios) no sites,
i have picked up that site several times and there seens to be nothing wrong with the site
if you pick up others ok my be it is the nat WX service some times that intermods radios
i would check,
as for long rage sites i get sites most of the time at a 40 mile range with an outside antenna at 20 Ft. mast with a junk RS antenna, i would check a intermod problems.LOL

Hi Jacob;

To clarify, does Unitrunker work for you on other sites / systems ?

Here are some things to try:

1. Run an oscilloscope program; check for a clipped or weak waveform. You can post a screen-shot of the waveform here.
2. Are you sure the CC frequency is exactly 158.01 Mhz? Try tuning up/down a few khz and see if decoding improves.
3. If the signal looks good, try recording the signal to a WAV file - myself and others might be able to figure out what's going on.

This might not be an control channel.

This has been a problem for 2 or so weeks.

I get Webster (about 33 Miles) and sometimes Summit (about 35 miles) with an internal 3 ft anntena but it's extremely fuzzy when listening to the control channel.

The analog scanner I use can't get the control channel to use UniTrunker from the other sites.

Screen Shots attached from my recorder program .. no Oscilliscope programs I found looked like an Oscilliscope genterated waveform I've ever seen ... 2 to 4 seperate lines?

158.0000, 158.0500, 158.1500, 158.2000 nothing.

This might not be an control channel.
It's the only Control Like channel from 150.0000-170.0000 in the area. Also, 1 WAV file in the ZIP file attached of the Control Channel Sound.

Got it Working

OK, Thanks for the help guys!

I have got the system working. I have yet to get a freq that is not 000.0000! I'm getting at best 57% decoding tho. Might just have to put a tap on one of my scanners to see if something's up or not.

Thanks,
Nick

Maybe Control Channel Only?!?

I reprogrammed the BC796D the same way that my new PRO96 was since it worked and now the BC796D is tracking just like it should.

Here's the way I programmed the channels, just in case you have problems on the Wtn Site.

1 157.8900 Channel 1
2 158.5200 Channel 2
3 158.0100 Channel 3 (PCC)
4 158.6700 Channel 4 (SCC)

PCC=Primary Control Channel
SCC=Secondary Control Channel

Tho I know the names doesn't Matter it seems that it needs all the freqs in order like a EDACS does.

Nick
