way to fix bc250d volume knob

I was wondering if there was a way to fix the volume knob on the uniden bc250d. In my stupidity I accidentally broke the knob off of the unit. The squelch knob remains. The unit itself works normally, however it cannot be turned off to be charged. It only works if I plug it into the wall adapter. Should I send the unit into uniden to be repaired or is there another way to fix it myself. Thanks for any help.

Don't know if it'll help you much, but when I broke the volume/squelch knob off my 780, I ordered knob assembly from Uniden and had a local radio shop install it for me. It was the knobs, the rod it's attached to plus the part that plugs into the circuit board inside. Park was only under $10, labour was about 30 or so. Worked great.

I dont know where to get it fixed but it is poorly designed. I bent mine and got it fixed alittle.

the vol/sql control is a very easy fix if you have the right tools. i have done about 50 of these controls, and can do them in about 20 mins. uniden charges about $ 60 for this repair and can probably do it in less time.

I had the same thing happen to my 296 bent the knob,sent it back to Uniden took 2 weeks charged $56 but the radio came back like brand new,no problems..

Ditto for me, came back like new ! I would suggest getting some kind of nylon carrier for your radio during transport - I use a nylon pistol carrier - something that has ample padding for your scanner in case you drop or bump it.

I have a question off the topic of broken knobs, but does the newer scanners have the same knobs on them? I have a 250D and think it would a good idea if Uniden came out with a volume/squelch control knob that would lock. I usually take the radio everywhere and listen to a combination of trunked and conventional frequencies and am always managing to turn the knobs inadvertantly. Alot of times I am listening to something in the trunked mode and the scanner skips to the conventional frequencies I have programmed and get the hiss from the squelch which can be very annoying. :?:

the 250d and the 296 use the same control. as for locking, i dont think you will see that too soon.
