Can my Uniden BC785D monitor Wayne County?
Is it APCO 25 or something else?
When I checked the frequency list I became confused when it said APCO 25 3600 Baud and then mentioned a lot of different variables.

Yes, it will be able to follow Wayne County, at least for the moment. Should they decide to move up to the 9600 baud control channel like MPSCS then you'll be out of luck.

Yes, Wayne County is currently operating at 3600 baud and 99 percent of all their radio traffic is in analog mode. They are currently operating two systems, and the one you would want to program in is the new one. However, the old system located downtown will be converted over to the new system, allowing it to become part of the simulcast system.

No luck

I put in all the Wayne County frequencies and programmed them just like the Downriver ones. I also put in the specific talk groups I wanted.
When I search the frequencies I'm getting talk groups from some other agencies with different id #s. (maybe Westland or Wayne)
When I scan the talk groups I get nothing.
Does anyone have any ideas what it is I'm doing wrong?
I am programming as a Motorolla type 2 system.
Also the control frequency defaults to one that is not listed as a control.

Currently, Wayne County is operating two systems. The site located in the downtown area atop the Penobscot Building is for the old Type-I radios and will be linked into the other sites as part of a countywide simulcast system.


In the listings here on trunkedradio.net, be sure to program in the new system but make sure you have the data channel from the old system locked out, so your scanner will not lock onto the wrong system.

I have spent some time working on perfecting monitoring the Wayne County analog systems. Thunderbolt is probably on top of this, for he seems to be all knowing. To me it seems that all of the published information is confusing and mixes up the two systems. It must be confusing to many people. So here is what I have to offer for others to critique:

The Wayne County old system (Penobscot Building) seems to be:

853.3125
854.2375

B0= S12
B1= S12
B2= S4
B3= SO
B4= SO
B5= S8
B6=SO
B7= S9

You can plug in the Type 1 (200-1 etc) numbers for this system and it should work. Keep in mind this system has several services, jails etc. on it that the Type II system below does not have.

The quote "new system", Type II, which includes the airport and roads maintenance appear to be as follows:

I have been testing it out by listening to the new system on one scanner, the old system on another scanner, and the shared users (Sheriff Road Patrol etc) chime up on both scanners.

Crappy Coverage

Speaking of the Wayne County system, does anybody out there think that it has the most crappy coverage.

I don't think it has crappy coverage...i get great coverage of airport public safety...in fact, there was a FD activation the other day for an aircraft that blew a tire leaving Amsterdam. Anyways, I also get great coverage of the Road Commission and good coverage of other agencies from my house in Romulus

It must be where i am at then. I mostly listen to it in the Northville and Plymouth area. It comes in good when i get close to the airport and when I am downtown Detroit. As I already figured out the western part of the county is not well covered, I also had a problem with Brownstown township with it beaking up all the time.

These coverage issues is what has prompted Wayne County to move over to the MPSCS TRS. They feel it would be fruitless to move in an opposite direction from the city of Detroit and neighboring counties.

Wayne County performed an extensive serious of range tests on both systems, and MPSCS currently offers superior coverage, especially in the western townships of the county. Further, many places in Sumpter Twp. are a complete dead spot on the county system, but works just fine on the MPSCS; hence, more fuel to join the state system.

Are the results of those tests available somewhere? They were just done last month (maybe a little longer...). Even our radio techs don't know as much about the future of our system as you seem to! Do you know when we're switching over? I'd like to relay it to our radio techs, they're curious too!
