I grew up with scanners until my late 20s and then I think Wayne Cty and Goldsboro Police and Fire all went to digital.

Here is the ignorant question:

Is there any way I can buy a scanner and be able to listen to WCSO and Wayne County Fire and Tac channels? I understand it will not be cheap but cannot be done? I thoroughly enjoyed it and have missed it for years.

Thank you in advance!!!!

Using a phase 2 capable scanner (BCDx36HP, SDSx00, BCD996P2, etc etc).you'd be able to scan fire and EMS. Unfortunately, looking at the Wayne County trunking system, sheriff's appears to be fully encrypted.

I can't hotlink text on mobile (that sucks) so I linked the database below

Wayne County is a simulcast system. Before purchasing do your homework to avoid other issues.

From my time in Wayne Co, the simulcast issues are bad in most areas I've been to, and agree with @KO4RJX.

I'd highly recommend a SDS model, a Unication G Series model, or if for home use only look at a SDR with software.
