WCRCS - Radio Reprogramming starts today

Washoe County Regional Communications System:

Announced over the air today, Radio Reprogramming starts today at 9am PDT.

What this means I do not know but I've been getting rumors of TG re-organization. However if all the analog radios go silent then we know what that means for sure.

Yes, I have heard the radio techs testing an occasional digital signal but I didn't think that they were going digital but we will know for sure this afternoon if part of the system is silent to the analog scanner.

I am finding a number of talkgroups that are not listed on this database. Specifically WCSO 02-021 and 02-022 is patched with 02-004 now, and 02-003 earlier, but not all of the traffic is simulcasted. 02-021 was silent for several minutes while 02-004 was quite active, then all of a sudden the simulcasting continued. Being new to monitoring this system (and EDACS in general) I don't quite know whats normal.

Washoe County has used about 22 patch channels as of last night. I'm not sitting next to my Etrunker screen at the moment so I don't know what they may have added or not. The Pro95 doesn't indicate if the tg your listening to is a patch or not.

Fortunately and so far it seems that this is a TG re-organization and not a switch to digital.

PHEWWWW is right! That would surely SUCK if they switched to digital right after my arrival here! I'm prepared for Motorola digital, but as you know, no scanner will monitor EDACS digital.

I have my 796 ID searching talkgroups that I've not got IDs for while the 780 and 785 are working the known IDs. A number of patches have popped up and down throughout the day intermingling numerous talkgroup IDs. The changes apparently have been completed for the day as of 16:00. I heard a radio tech come on Fire RED and announce what I though was that the remote reprogramming FAILED and for all units to reset their radios that the reprogramming was complete for the day. But I am still hearing occasional chatter requesting radios be brought in for re-programming.

Since I am new here, I can't make heads or tails yet of the way the SO and RPD juggle their channels around. Seems I am frequently hearing units in the field ask their dispatcher which channel is their secondary. Maybe its hit or miss? And when the channels go CLOSED for what they call HOT CALLS in SoCal, who knows whats going on with the reorganization. :?

I guess time will tell...

Heard several radio checks this morning on TG 773 (06-005) - they all refered to it as RN4 or Reno 4

The 06-00x series all seem to be NHP patch talkgroups.

05-014 (not listed in the database) is referred to as "1" and was used apparently by undercover units who also were monitoring 06-003, therefore NHP.

02-060 (not listed in the database) is Sparks PD perhaps a simulcast TG. Only thing ever heard on it is notifications that the main channel is open or closed.

02-031 is Washoe Co SO Records (seldom used, perhaps for those that can't get out on their MDCs)

Other than those, I am not hearing any new (not in database) talkgroups or anything of interest (to me anyway.)

Anyone else finding anything new as a result of this radio reprogramming that has apparently been going on over the last several days? There doesn't seem to be many, if any at all, changes in the way I've got my scanners programmed. How about you all?
