I had a guy in a fire department's technology section tell me this explaining why he's not implementing the P25 (P16, I guess) talkgroups allocated to him for testing on our radio system. According to what he's telling me, "our" radio IDs (under 710000) are incapable of supporting P16 digital comms. Would somebody just confirm for me please, that the only reason this would be true is if a sysadmin defined the system parameters so that only radios 734000 and higher (as it appears on this system) can use P16? Or is there something else I'm not considering that might make a difference?
I'm a dispatcher with access to ADM and ZoneWatch, and programming (conventional) radios with an understanding of programming for trunks. Guess I'm not as familiar with trunks (or at least ASTRO systems) as I thought, because other than restricting which RIDs can use P16, I can't understand my colleague's insistence that our radios will have to be reassigned new RIDs in order to use P16.
