Hello Guys!

We are expanding our product lines for our store(s) and are looking into carrying radio scanners. We have found a supplier for the following lines.

ALINCO
AOR
FAIRHAVEN
GRE
ICOM
MAYCOM
STEEPLETONE
UNIDEN
YAESU
YUPITERU

Can you guys make some recommendations on the brands and which models we should carry. Also which ones to steer clear of. ;)

Thanks!

BTW, The new store is working out awesome and we are already opening a new location in Feb!

The name of our company is Thin Air Communications. 8)

You should sell, Uniden, GRE, Icom, and AOR. I didn't even know Maxon made scanners! Never even heard of Steepletone, Yupiteru, Fairhaven, or Maycom.

Wow congrats! I didn't even know you had a store (sheesh I really should pay better attention to this stuff!)

Get the higher end units, avoid the $90 scanners anyone can get at WalMart. Also avoid anything that isn't computer programmable, and don't forget about the software each radio can use too! Lots of vendors to choose from, and if you buy in quantity you can make some good money on those. You can even sell bundle deals: Scanner and software of choice for one low price, you get the idea.

Do you guys have a website yet? PM me if you want help with one, my payment terms are very flexible and can include free radios!

Best of luck on the new venture (and I'm serious about the website if you need one).

EDIT: I gave the vendor list another once over....Be careful with the Yupi's, Maycoms and other uncommon ones... make sure you are selling US legal scanners only or you can get in some pretty hot water with the FCC and other three letter agencies.

Will us Canadians be able to order online and have them shipped to Canada, ?? if so you may want to put a post on the Canada forum.

How soon do you think you will have stock? I may be in Nevada mid January. What major city are you near? If you can offer a little better deal than the major outlets, you should do well. I have been waiting to see a sale on the BC296 for months, and it hasn't happened.

Yes, most definately we will carry US legal scanners only!

We are intending on offering the full package, software, cables, hardware as a complete solution.

Pricing will be as competitive as we can make them. And the pricing goal is to be as, if not more competitive than most places. Plus we intend to provide the best customer service we can particularly for those who actually come into our store.

We will ship anywhere providing the expense to do so isn't cost prohibitive. We intend to be primarily a brick and mortar retail outlet but we may make exceptions for those on the list.

Once we get everything in order which should happen mid-Jan I will let you guys know what we are offering and at what prices. We are still in the information gathering part of this venture but if it breaks loose, you will be the first to know. Plus I'll work with Lindsay on having a members discount or something. ;)

Who is the "we" that you keep talking about? Is this a store that you own or one that you work for?

The store is in Carson City which is 30 miles south of Reno.

Is this a RS Franchise store?

Next time im in the Reno area I will have to stop in and say hi. My wife is from that area and we will eventually get up there to visit her friends.

Eek! No! Not a RS Franchise. We are a wireless communications company that is starting with one location that is a Sprint PCS exclusive store. We are making some room for Wilson products as well as some cellular skinz. Fortunately our exclusive with Sprint allows us to carry additional wireless products. We are even considering satellite phones as a side venture.

Are you still a RS Store Manager?

No. I gave notice in September and was "let go" 3 days later. ;) My old DM comes into my new store once in a while just to BS and see how things are going.
