I did a search, but could not find a thread on this question.
If I put the local NOAA frequency in a VHF handheld, is there a way to set up the channel so that it will only open the squelch when the alert tone sounds?

How would you know that would work without knowing what radio it was?

Because he is literally telling the OP what the decoding parameters are based on what NOAA transmits.

It would be the end user's responsibility to make sure the radio he has IFO him can physically do it.

Most land mobile radios for the past 20 years or so can select call on 1050 Hz. If a radio can’t, it is pretty easy to find one that can for a very reasonable amount.

The VHF radio must have Quick-Call II signaling on 1050 Hz in both tone slots.
