Apropos of nothing, the best "weather alert" radio out there is an Amazon echo device, you get timely and accurate weather alerts via Alexa.

The NOAA weather alert system leaves a lot to be desired, I've had one of my scanners in weather alert mode and SAME codes for my county programmed and gotten an alert and thought "gee, would have been useful to get that alert, you know, before the storm passed through, not 20 minutes after it actually did.

I have used weather on my 436 maybe one time. Never even tried on my 200. I do have a dedicated weather radio that is always on, records and can be played back if needed..

Personally I've never seen a need to use it. I mostly use NOAA for antenna testing since the signal is constant & I have several stations from different directions within listening range to me. For everything else there's weather.com and good ol fashioned terrestrial radio
