Does anybody know where NJ dot gets their weather reports from during a storm?
Any frequencies?

I believe they have data gathering equipment around the state, near highways. I know there is one along 206 in chester and near 287 in parsip.

I don't know about now but, when I woked weekends on the Turnpike, they had a weather contractor - similar to AccuWeather. They are also linked to NWS Mount Holly.

I have encountered 3 or 4 in my travels; I-295N at the infamous rest stop above Burlington; also above Trenton. I-195E (don't know locale).

There is also a weather station on RT. 29 in the southbound direction right before I-95. Another one is on the west side of Jugtown mountain on I-78. This site also has a camera too. -John

There was a multicar pile up during the storm on friday night within a stone's throw of that weather contraption!

I think that they are just supposed relay temp info back to Elmwwod Pk.

Ok guys this is what I can tell you on weather forecast.

NJ Turnpike: DTN - Meteorologix - Located out of state.
NJDOT : Accu Weather - Out of State
Parkway : Not sure but it could be the same vendor as the NJ Turnpike.
NJ State Police ( ROIC ): National Weather Service - Mount Holly.

There NJDOT and Turnpike Weather Stations called ( RWIS ) Road Weather Information System.

Private Weather Services in the state include...

ION Weather: Whippany NJ - Morristown Airport - There forecast locally WMTR Radio
Weather Works: Hunterdon County - Numerous small radio stations around the state.
National Weather Station: Lodi NJ - Mailing Address - Office Teterboro Airport.
Rutgers : Has agreement to provide PSEG with forecast, PSEG also uses Accu Weather and DTN.

The two National Weather Services that cover the state is the National Weather Service office in Mount Holly covers most of the state while extreme Northeastern NJ is covered by the National Weather Service in Upton NY which is located on Eastern Long Island.

News 12 NJ in Edison only does there Cable Viewers they employee two full timers and two part timers. - There forecast it is what it is. Hyper Local ??? Enough Said !!

NJN News has a very small agreement with Accu Weather, 30 second spots.

Best TV Weather People in the NYC Area...

1) Alan Kasper NJ 101.5 FM - Hands down the Best
2) Nick Gregory on Fox NY - Best on air in the NYC Metro Area

The Weather Channel... Total joke... use no volume on your TV's and take it with a grain of salt. The local on the 8s forecast are generated by a computer based on the WRF model. When you see the NOAA logo on the Weather Channel this is official information provided to your local cable provider via the Weather Star encoder box.

No problem, Meteorology besides EMS is right up my alley, I am a Cooperative Observer for the National Weather Service and currently the senior Weather and hurricane program manager for the Hudson County Office of Emergency Management.
