+1 on either the Reecom or the Midland. I honestly like the Reecom a smidge better. Side by side with the Midland the Reecom seems like it has a better receiver. The Midland has easier user setup though.

My ham club did a group buy of Reecoms when I was 15 that I got in on, I am 35 now and it is still going strong. Have it set up for my mom at her house.

When my wife and I bought our house, we put a Midland in my office across from the bedroom. It wakes us up through the night with the bedroom door shut.

If you really want to get technical, I have a Gorman-Redlich Watch Dog set up at the plant I work at to broadcast tornado warnings on our PA system on the production floor. That is a nifty little unit. They are made about 45 minutes away from me.

That’s a pretty interesting unit. Looks like it’s for industrial/commercial use?

Also, this model?

Answered my own question. Listed at the bottom. The Gorman and Thunder Eagle look pretty hardcore.

I had a spare Midland and could not give it away. It finally went to Goodwill. The signals are weak here. Yet I have a VHF Systems Saber that literraly pulls them in , three channels, and it decodes the alert tone nicely using the QK long tone B setting. my main WX radio is the Radio Shack last model, and it works about 1/2 the time.

This might be of some use: Jock shares: “A bit more about NOAA Weather Radio”

I have the Midland 120 EZ and can easily recommend it. See the link above. It also has internal battery back up.

The CCrane 2E has a cracking good NWR receiver section, does ALERT, but does not do SAME codes. The Uniden SDS has an excxellent NWR function with lots of cool programming options, but who want to pay $700 for a weather radio? (Unless, of course, you want a really good scanner as well.)

Thanks. I dropped a little on another Midland and so far, so good, but it's just been sunny and 92 since I installed it. Alleged t-storms next week; we will see if it alerts properly or if it wants to tell me about weather in another state.

I would've liked to pick up a CCrane but that SAME function is the dealbreaker...And I would rather chew broken glass again than buy a Unident radio.
