So I was listening to the WXJ42 station located in Meriden from Norwich for a bit, and I noticed that broadcast info coming from the station differs on my different scanners.

For example on my BC355N and BCT15X the broadcast info would be word for word matching, but when I go to my BCT15 and compare it to my other two scanners it sounds like a completely different broadcast info

Still with me? I'm I making any sense? Lol.

You are likely receiving another NOAA Weather (WX) radio broadcast originating from a different location but using same frequency.

Listen to the broadcast long enough until the station callsign and location is announced.

During summer months, especially right after weather/storm fronts move through your area, there is a phenomenon called tropospheric ducting that can affect the way VHF signals travel through the air. At times you'll be able to pick up stations that are far away. WX radio is a good indicator this is happening.

Makes for some interesting listening on other scanner frequencies.

They identify the station during the loop so you should be able to determine which station you are hearing.
You might be hearing Providence as they share the 162.4000 channel
Did not know that they shared the freq, that might be actually the reason because I was hearing stuff about RI.

There are only 7 US WX frequencies, so year they are all shared, they tend to space them apart, but when the VHF bands are open, you get mixing and can tend to hear "Not your Local Stations"

without more info, such as a definitive Call Sign, I guess you were hearing WXJ39 from RI

@Rt169Radio , mind if I ask why you are listen to Meriden if KHB47 is in your backyard? Nothing wrong with doing it, but when I used to work down in Norwich - we could pick up the New London station on strings and a tin can.

And if you happen to live approx half way between two WX stations it can get real interesting if they each happen to have their own "weather" forecast!

knowing what you regularly can get vs what you get during a band openning can help out knowing which direction the RF is coming from as well
