Hello,
I just turned on my Pro-92 after about 2 years of sitting in a desk. It initializes and seems to be working ok. It was being awful quiet so I turned on the local NOAA channel and to my dismay, nothing comes in. I took the cover off and everything looked good and solid. I set it down and began perusing the net looking for information when all of a sudden its picking up the NOAA site clear as a bell. Does the pro-92 have a longer init time or did it just decide to work?
Just curious if anyone has ever encountered this.
Thanks,
Chris

Pro-92

I have not experienced that with my PRO-92, but I have read where others have had "long warm up times". Weird is the best description.

Its frustrating to say the least. My 92 was retired to status of unreliable backup because of this. Indeed, if you can keep it on and never shut it off, I guess its OK. I never have figured out how long it can stay off without going into this "mode" of needing to warm up. Finding a cold solder joint in there would be like finding the proverbial needle in a haystack.

Is your 92 powered from an AC source or with batteries? I have a 2067 that has a terrible solder connection at the point of AC power entry. Often you have to wiggle it for it to function (its been repaired but then fails again). I have the same problem with a Pro-95 where the AC plug doesn't seem to fit nice and tight.

Anyway, my thought is that maybe the scanner fails to power up when turned on, and then it does after you perhaps bump (or accidentally wiggle) the power cord, or something of the like.

PRO-95 & PRO-92 power

ONE of my 95s in combination with ONE of my power supplies also has a less-than-perfect connection. As long as it is not touched, once making connection, it works fine. I just try and not use that combination much, as the power supply works fine on all other scanners; and that scanner works fine on all other power supplies.

Anyway, my thought is that maybe the scanner fails to power up when turned on, and then it does after you perhaps bump (or accidentally wiggle) the power cord, or something of the like.
I'm not sure about the OP, but the problem I've seen with the '92 is that it definitely powers up. The display works fine, the scanner scans and you get audio if you manually crack open the squelch. But the receiver simply does not pick anything up until after it has been powered for 'some time'.
