just heard a radio key up using an MDC identifier twice on Osage Co's south repeater (156.21), twice on Skiatook FD's repeater (154.325) then once on Skiatook PD's frequency (155.25) all with in a 10 second span. No one around this area uses MDC, so I am wondering who it could be?

nah, the radio service thing was legit, despite Shrek's attempt at being funny :D. My best guess this was someone with a new radio that shouldn't necessarily have it. I guess I will pay attention to future radio traffic to see who (like a Firefighter) is transmitting MDC.

I've heard it too, could it be a king unit?

That's a definite possibility; The 'cool' thing to do right now at Skiatook FD is to buy your own Handheld (since the dept only provides them for EMS & officers), so that why I guessed firefighter. I guess only time will tell!

Pardon my ignorance, but may I ask what MDC is?

it's this (WAV) that will identify a unit number on radios that decode MDC1200. For ex: Creek Co uses it, When Edward-21's keys up his VHF car radio everyone else's radios will display 121, and if he keys his handheld they display 221. Prett neato, IMHO.

Anyone have a radio that they can program to decode the MDC and find the unit ID it is sending?

So even if you knew the ID, you think you could figure it out there?

Not many systems that I have decoded actually link car number/office number with the radio ID (I must say that OKC did a good job doing that). It's possible, but ya never know if it's really going to help either.

What freqs or channels did OKC use this on? I seem to remember hearing the data burst a lot, but I can't recall the channels it was used on.

I mean on their EDACS system. Radio IDs relate to whom has the radio without tying to a big non-related look-up.
